Android remains most popular OS in Spain, as iOS catches up with RIM

MADRID, SPAIN – 23rdApril 2012:

InMobi, the largest independent mobile advertising network, today released its Quarterly Mobile Insights Report: Spanish Edition, January to March. The report shows continued growth in the region, with mobile impressions on InMobi’s Spanish network increasing 21 per cent in 90 days to 4.9 billion per quarter. The report highlights the continued growth of mobile advertising in Spain, as the InMobi network grew by 21 per cent in 90 days. The Q1 2012 report reveals that Android maintained its top spot in Spain with 54.3 per cent of share, pulling further away from RIM and iOS, whose combined market share comes to only 36.7%. Despite this, however, Apple’s iPhone took the lead from RIM’s BlackBerry 8520 to become the top handset in Q1 2012. Miguel Melgarejo, Sales Manager, Spain, at InMobi comments: “In the first three months this year in Spain, we have not only increased our network reach by 21 per cent, but we have served over 4.9 billion impressions, demonstrating that the reach offered by mobile devices to local, regional and global brands is continuing to grow.”

Melgarejo continues: “Android continues to top the operating system share of impressions in Spain, growing in popularity as RIM loses ground. However, Apple has now become the most popular manufacturer with Spanish consumers, with RIM’s previous dominance slipping away to the iPhone in Q1 2012.”

Melgarejo concludes: “In Spain, mobile ad growth continues to be driven by smartphones, and we have seen an increase of 23 per cent in smartphone usage since Q4 2011. As more consumers use their mobile devices to access the mobile web, smartphone impressions now outnumber advanced phone impressions by more than 54 to 1, allowing significantly more opportunities for premium publishers to create more engaging, interactive rich media ads.” You can download the latest InMobi Mobile Insights Reports under the Network Data section of the InMobi Research page for free at: www.inmobi.com/research
