Largest independent mobile ad network aims for top spot in Spain

MADRID, Spain – 9th March, 2012:

InMobi, the world’s largest independent mobile advertising network announces its expansion to the Spanish market, with the opening of an office in Madrid and appointment of Miguel Melgarejo as Sales Manager. The move comes following strong growth in smartphone usage in the Spanish market, and the company’s plan to expand its footprint in Europe. Over the last three months (December 2011 – February 2012) Spain had 5.3 billion advertising impressions in InMobi’s mobile advertising network, which has a global figure of 93.4 billion global mobile advertising impressions. InMobi has seen the Spanish market grow by 66% in mobile impressions, with Android being the dominant Operating System (OS), accounting for 49.3% of OS share of impressions. This growth in mobile impressions and smartphones has led InMobi to respond to the market growth with the appointment of Melgarejo to lead the charge and grow the InMobi into Spain’s largest mobile ad network. Melgarejo brings a strong heritage in mobile advertising and sales, having worked for megabrands such as Nokia, L’Oreal and Yves Saint Laurent, as well as having led the monetisation of Spanish social network Tuenti’s mobile site. Miguel Melgarejo, Sales Manager of Spain at InMobi comments: “There are over 14 million smartphones in Spain and this number is growing every day as feature phones are phased out. We see a major opportunity in Spain to become the market leader in mobile advertising, and we will be looking to work closely with premium content publishers and advertisers to achieve our ambitious goals. “We’re bringing a compelling proposition to Spanish advertisers, with the unparalleled scale and reach of our global network combined with the creative opportunities offered by HTML5 rich media campaigns. I am confident that our offering is a great fit for the Spanish market and will provide exciting new opportunities for advertisers to reach their target audience with engaging mobile content.” This expansion is a sign of InMobi’s commitment to the Spanish market, and follows the opening of its Paris office last year, demonstrating its readiness to capitalise on opportunities across Southern Europe as a whole.
