InMobi Australia Mobile Insights Report Q2, 2013: Mobile Advertising Almost Doubles in a Year

Mobile advertising impressions grow 44% YoY
Smartphone impressions grow 35% YoY
Tablets grow 109% YoY

August 14, 2013  InMobi, the leading innovator in mobile advertising and the largest independent mobile advertising network, released its latest Australian Mobile Insights Report today, revealing that the network has grown an impressive 44 per cent since last year. Over 2.74 billion ad impressions were served on the InMobi network in Q2 2013 – 845 million more ads than Q2 2012 – supporting the recent findings from the  IAB this week that online has finally overtaken TV as the biggest spending advertising medium. This strong year-on-year growth has been impacted mostly by smartphones, which have grown 35 per cent, and tablets, which have grown a staggering 109 per cent. In Q2, tablets alone grew 25 per cent with more brands and advertisers beginning to focus on the second screen experience.

Marc Fine, Head of Marketing of InMobi Australia and New Zealand, said:  “InMobi’s topline inventory has grown substantially due to its strong global partnerships with leading app and website publishers, and marketers and advertisers allocating more budget to mobile to  recognise its importance. This has provided InMobi with the opportunity to secure a large portion of the inventory in Australia with first call status.”

Volume of Impressions
  Q2 2012 Q1 2013 Q2 2013
Network 1,904,208,757 2,602,382,770 2,749,916,079
Smartphone 1,553,427,518 2,064,510,482 2,097,169,570
Tablets 297,894,479 496,976,865 621,773,508

The report also found that app display advertising continues to dominate over web display, contributing to 79 per cent of network impressions thanks to manufacturers continuing to make apps the center of the smartphone user experience. As seen in the last three quarters, Apple’s manufacturer share has continued to decline, dropping 0.7 per cent, whilst Samsung (+1.3%), HTC (+0.1%), LG (+0.1%) and Sony (+0.2%) have all gained ground.
