Why I Joined InMobi: Yusuke Kinoshita

Yusuke joined our team in Japan as a Sales Manager in February 2023. In this conversation with us, he shares his experience as a new joiner and discusses his excitement about unlocking the highly competitive and challenging Japanese market for InMobi as he takes on this new role.

 

What are the key responsibilities that come with your current role?

As the lead sales manager, my primary responsibility is enhancing sales within our client base by creating and selling efficient mobile advertising and platform solutions to crucial agencies and advertisers. My current focus is developing new relationships and sales pipelines with major Japanese agencies and advertisers. Additionally, I am actively involved in regional service development initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution.

The path that led you to InMobi

I have over 15 years of experience in Japan's digital marketing and advertising industry, having worked extensively in various domains such as advertising agencies, mobile service development, and SSP/Exchange businesses. My diverse experience ranges from sales to business development and management, giving me both a deep and broad understanding of the industry. I believe my expertise and knowledge will be a valuable asset to the company, and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to its success.

What made you want to join InMobi?

Japan’s ad tech industry is highly competitive and aggressive. This is the reason why several foreign companies that tapped into the market were quick to exit and the leading players are engaged in fierce competition.

However, despite this challenging environment, InMobi has decided to increase its investment in the Japanese market. As a result, the company was ready to enter the start-up phase again with an aim to rapidly grow after almost ten years. Despite being a world-renowned platform, InMobi lacks the relative name recognition advantage in Japan, making it an exciting challenge to be at the forefront of market development as a challenger.

The opportunity to join an established company during its nascent stage in the Japanese market got me particularly excited. This has also led me to test the value of my abilities and mobilize all of my experience and the value that I bring to the table.

Tell us about your hiring journey and experience

Before my interview with InMobi Japan, I had the good fortune of establishing professional relationships with the company's Japanese team members and some of its Asia Pacific-based executives. As a result, the interview process was mainly focused on discussing the Japanese market, where all my inquiries were responded to with kindness and respect.

I was also granted the privilege of meeting some of my prospective colleagues, which was a delightful experience. Before joining the team, this opportunity enabled me to understand the company, its business objectives, and its culture.  Overall, it was a valuable experience that allowed me to confidently and wholeheartedly commit to InMobi as a part of its Japan team.

What do you enjoy most about working at InMobi?

It has been pleasant to see everything unfolding exactly as I had hoped. In addition, being at the forefront of our company's rapid growth is an exhilarating experience. Working with a global team and leaders that understand and acknowledge the challenges in the Japanese market and their commitment to developing services that address them as a top priority is highly encouraging and enjoyable. This kind of dedication and organization gives me great faith in our ability to meet the evolving needs of our clients and drive even greater success for the company. I am simply thrilled to have joined the InMobi team in Japan and to be able to contribute to its growth and success.

Tips or advice for aspiring InMobians

InMobi in Japan is currently experiencing dynamic growth, making it an exciting opportunity for individuals seeking to challenge themselves and contribute towards an ambitious vision.  Furthermore, working at InMobi will allow you to collaborate with skilled professionals worldwide, gaining access to leading-edge knowledge and expertise in mobile advertising. One remarkable aspect is the ease with which cross-regional and cross-departmental collaboration occurs, despite the company's global scale. 

Lastly, tell us a bit about your life outside of work

While working out at the gym and reading books are regular hobbies of mine. My biggest source of joy is spending time with my daughter and wife every weekend and exploring new places together. Lately, my daughter has developed a keen interest in hot springs, prompting us to visit various ones throughout Japan.
